How to Set Intentions (or Promises) for the New Year

The New Year is here, and many of us like to continue the tradition of setting resolutions for self-improvement in the coming year ahead. However, although many of us are well-intentioned and list our goals with a passionate "I can do it!" attitude, the majority of people fall off the track to self-improvement within days, weeks or months. This tendency to lose momentum continues year after year for about 90% of the population, whether the goals are related to health and fitness, organization, outward demeanor, or anything else in life.  Why does this happen?

It's often a combination of setting unrealistic or non-meaningful goals, not understanding the process for success, and calling them "goals" in the first place. For me, there were times where getting relatively in shape, working a bit in corporate wellness, and even beginning a career in fitness were all just nice ideas that I had on a piece of paper. None of them were possible until I had gotten to the point where I wanted to do them without an ounce of hesitancy, and just knew that I would. There are many articles on goal-setting out there, but I've linked to this one below, particularly because it suggests a shift in how we actually think about our goals in order to make them happen. Some of the prime indicators of success are our underlying beliefs, and we need to do our part in setting up our subconscious mind before we make any moves! I hope you all enjoy your holiday, have fun with any intention-setting, and best wishes for health, love and happiness in 2017 to all of you :)
